Talon is an act remembered well on the local music scene. The popular group performed all over Western New York for a full decade, from ’86 to ’96; at The Penny Arcade, Spectator’s, Letchworth Pines, Blind Melons in Buffalo and the English House in Batavia. Their high energy show featured precise musicianship and top notch vocals; delivering the best of Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Guns n’ roses, AD/DC, Metallica and Judas Priest. Then, regrettably, they called it quits in the summer of ’96.
Fast forward a dozen or so years…some of Talon’s core members just have to do it again! Original lead guitarists Mike Brandes and Lou Ferrara; along with longtime bassist Loren Brei got together and began their search for a really great singer and drummer. The end result was the selection of Jeff Morrow (Prowler/Noah’s Reign) on vocals; and longtime friend, John ‘Jonesie’ Vescovi on drums.
They’ve updated their playlist to include more current music by Foo Fighters, Daughtry, Pear Jam, Alice In Chains and Nickelback; and re-worked the best of their classic material to the point where the band feels poised to take on a whole new chapter of rocking Western New York. You can check them out for yourself on Friday, April 30 (from 9 to 10 p.m.) at the Jukebox, 5435 Ridge Rd. West in Spencerport, when they open for 7th Heaven. They’re also lining up several more shows – see www.Talonband.com for details.
