After having a detailed dream about her career, Mary Shannon woke up with a name, Mahara – a combination of Mary Harp – and it is now the name she performs under. Last month she started her own record label, Divine Dennis Records, in honor of her father Dennis Monroe. Her latest album, The Best of Mahara 2000-2007 was just released. It’s a collection of her favorite songs from previous albums including her debut, Believe in Magic.
Fresh from her appearance in San Francisco, CA, she’ll be playing on Friday, April 9 at Java’s, 16 Gibbs Street. Her music is an eclectic array performed on the harp and guitar; a mix of Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Celtic, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Rock and originals. As a singer/songwriter, she’s been compared to Tori Amos, Sarah Brightman, Enya, Allison Krauss and Sarah McLachlan. Call (585) 232-4820.
