There’s always room for another movie about a down-and-out country singer (though Payday with Rip Torn is still the best). Jeff Bridges is terrific as Bad Blake, a many times married, longtime loner whose now relegated to singing in bowling alleys, but might find a late chance at love with a reporter assigned to profile him (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Some great songs by T-Bone Burnett that Bridges sings as a sort of Greek chorus to the film’s plot.
