No Pedals Required Sean Carney Band Smokes the Dinosaur BBQ June 3, 2009
When: June 7, 2009 Where: Water Street Music Hall Stuff: Workshop 11am – 2 pm, Concert 4-9pm
Last year, in this space, I wrote about this event, and it’s being long overdue for Rochester, and the possibilities it offered for tourist and locals alike. I am thrilled that, once again, this year there will be a concert honoring Son House and benefits the Catholic Family Center’s Francis Center, a homeless shelter for men here in Rochester, NY. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the men in crisis served by the Center.

I have been spending Sunday evenings at Lovin’ Cup lately, as they put on a Jazz Night. This week, however, the Cup hosted a benefit for breast cancer. I got there at 7, only to learn that “Old School”, had just finished, and that the main attraction (a breast cancer survivor) sang songs of sadness, love, and hope, which she told us she had written while warding off the big C. Here is a case where music therapy marriaged with conventional, conserved a messenger with songs of life.

There is a flurry of festivities planned for your holiday season, and here’s a heads up on some of the highlights (more things are covered in our Holiday Happenings section)...
The 1st annual “Twas the Night Before Christmas Eve Bash” (Tuesday, Dec. 23) takes over the Upper East End including A-Pub Live, The Pig, Daisy Dukes and The Bar, with a huge musical event in store that will feature members of The Taint, Mike Z & the Circus, Drama Queen and Zero Gravity coming together for one special performance...
Here’s a cause we can all get behind… “Rock Out For Vets” at Water St. Music Hall on Friday, November 7th (6:30pm), and help raise funds for the awesome work they do over at the Veterans Outreach Center. During this time of war, there’s nothing better we can do than salute our soldiers in one way or another, and being a part of this benefit show is the perfect choice. The evening will feature cool music from Uncle Plum and Joey T & the Formula, as well as a live auction with Brother Wease
